The Way of the Dragon or the Way of the Lamb…what a title! Eleven words are longer than most of my sentences. The book is about something relevant to the church today, and that is power. The power the church seeks comes from two places: from below (the dragon) and above (the Lamb). If you’re wondering, you should want your power coming from above. Unfortunately, many churches root their power from below without recognizing it.
Jamin Goggin and Kyle Strobel co-wrote the book. One dislike about the book is how the two authors bounce back and forth. I’m not familiar with the two men enough to distinguish between the two, but that is minor. The two men interviewed giants of the faith to discuss power in the church. Not today’s cutting edge pastors we celebrate but men like J.I. Packer and Dallas Willard.
This book is challenging because it was honest about our church culture, which is what happens when you read what godly men and women say combine with scripture about power. In fact, that is one reason I haven’t been writing lately. It made me question some of my motives behind why I write. Was I writing to love God and others or was I writing to gain something more self-serving?
This is a necessary read for pastors or any leaders in a church. Perhaps, if you don’t like how things are going in your church, you could buy it for your pastor to read. (Totally, just kidding. Don’t do that.) BookLook Bloggers gave me a complimentary copy of this book, but you can get yours here.
